Mission Newsheet September 2011

Church Mission Society (CMS)

Ruth Radley, our Mission Partner, continues to thank God for her new colleague, Samuel Malish and is greatly encouraged by his appointment. The birth of the Republic of South Sudan at the beginning of July, passed off with much celebration and peacefully. Ruth's description of the celebrations is vivid and clearly shows the excitement generated by such a momentous event. She clearly felt very much part of it. Ruth reports that fuel has been in short supply with the consequence that their power is now on for five hours less a day. However, Ruth has been given a solar powered freezer which is proving a great blessing, as she had neither fridge nor freezer before. She is also delighted that she is able to run a lighting system from the solar battery too. Again she has not had this before. Unusually though, there has been little sun or rain recently, so crops are being ruined and of course the solar battery is not charged! Ruth continues to be very appreciative of our prayer and financial support.

London City Mission (LCM)

Ania Cannon, our Mission Partner who works with schools in the Bermondsey area, has been in contact with two new schools this term. She asks us to pray that the Lord will open doors for her to do some RE in both schools. She also asks us to pray for the new St James' School (an amalgamation of St James' and Alma Schools), that the staff and children will integrate well and settle quickly in their new setting. Ania’s husband Andrew, heads the team at Bermondsey Christian centre and they, with the Vicar of St James' Church, are running Bible Zone club every Thursday lunchtime, and taking some assemblies there. Ania is setting up some reflective corners and taking Key Stage 1 assemblies. Ania continues her work in three schools with whom she has had a long association, and asks us to pray that she will be able to further develop good relationships already established with staff and children and build new ones, both through formal and informal contact. She is very grateful for our support.

Tools with a Mission (TWAM)

Two big house moves for members of St Botolph's have benefited TWAM greatly in recent weeks. Other tools, items of equipment, knitted items and material continue to be donated regularly and now our Sunday Club is making Scholar Packs to send to schools in Africa who have little or no equipment. They will be very grateful for gifts of either necessary items or money to support this. Please see Jean Mair if you have tools you think might be useful to TWAM and she will advise you and arrange transport if necessary.
